In the 80’ties the computer business started focusing on the user experience but the main focus was on usability which according to ISO 9241-11is: “The extent to which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use.” Today user experience is much more than effectivenes and efficiency. It is also about value, desire and fun. Factors that are difficult to quantify but newertheless very importent for succes.

Evaluating user experience in the sound universe
To test and evaluate the activities in the sound universe we have done the following:

Describe the purpose of the activity

Describe the context (what information and interactive elements are available)

Analyze the functionality and describe specific tasks the user has to solve

Write down questions for an interview before and after the test (open ended)

As users we use the students on the Erasmus team

Perform interview and test. The session is recorded on video, and edited afterwards to show the user experience.

It is a good idea to include the "developer" as an observer. It is a good chance for him to learn more about usability and users.

Shortly after describe the problems (and possible solutions).
